Take Immediate Control

Even before you buy a Parental Control Product you should do the following:

  1. Limit Access to Computers by:
    • Physically locate computers in a public place such as the living room.  Never place a computer in a child's room.  Be strong.
    • Programmatically give each child their own account as a "Standard Account" in Windows XP or Windows Vista.  Never make a child "Administrator." Ever.
    • Parentally assert your right, yes right, as a Parent.  Using the computer is a "Privelage" for a child, Parents must establish and enforce time limits for computer usage to maintain credibility as Parents.
  2. Establish Age Appropriate Rules and enforce them:
  3. Be Vigilant - "Trust, but Verify":
    • Ask your kids about there online activity.
    • Check your kids online activity.
    • Enforce the rules up to and including termination of their computer privelages.
